INTRO: Authorities in Pakistan, have dug up a grave containing the remains of murdered American journalist Daniel Pearl. From Islamabad, Ayaz Gul reports.
TEXT: Police in the southern city of Karachi say they have recovered a torso and separated head they believe belong to the American reporter. Authorities say a tip led them to the grave in a walled nursery on the outskirts of the city.
Doctors are examining the body that was found in nine pieces.
American reporter Daniel Pearl was abducted in Karachi in January while researching stories on Pakistani militants. A gruesome video showing Mr. Pearl's body being butchered was delivered to U-S diplomats in the city a month later.
Police are reported to have also found a room near the grave where the American reporter was held hostage.
Four Islamic militants are on trial in Pakistan for allegedly plotting the kidnap and murder of Mr. Pearl. (SIGNED)
