May 2002 No Women Elected in Bahrain Elections VOA News 10 May 2002 13:58 UTC
Thursday's elections marked the first time Bahraini women had been allowed to run for elective office. Not only did the women candidates fail to win any of the 28 seats decided, but they also failed to win places in the 22 contests yet to be decided in run-off elections. Some of the defeated women candidates complained that women had been forced by their husbands to vote for male candidates. Others spoke of the strength of the conservative Islamic current in the region.
The Bahraini minister said he hopes the election results will not dampen Bahraini women's enthusiasm for the elective process. He said they should work hard to make a strong showing in legislative polls scheduled for October. Some information for this report provided by AP, AFP and Reuters.

World events are historic steps in the purpose and plan of God. The outcome of history is up to man - restricted only by sovereign limits imposed by God. The future events are consequences resulting from mankind exercising the gift of intelligence and free will in response to situations developing from past events. This human response is either synchronized to His Will or in rebellion to His Will. Behavior is either the manifestation of love or it's opposite - hate. As Christians we should be involved through loving (caring attitude and behavior for others) actions empowered by prayer, understanding, and submission to His Will. | |||
