May 2002 Palestinian Police Arrest Hamas Activists in Gaza VOA News 9 May 2002 13:27 UTC
The arrests came after Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat ordered his police to prevent acts of terrorism against Israeli civilians. Hamas said it was responsible for the suicide bombing that killed 15 Israelis in a pool hall south of Tel Aviv Tuesday night. Israel's security cabinet has given Prime Minister Ariel Sharon authority to take the action he deems necessary in response to the bombing. Israeli media reports predict there will be a military strike in the Gaza Strip, where Hamas is based. The Israeli army has started to call up reservists, an action it also took before launching a large-scale offensive in the West Bank in late March. The Palestinian head of public security in the Gaza Strip, General Abdal Razaq al-Majayida, says he expects Israeli forces to strike at any time against Hamas and Palestinian Authority targets in Gaza. President Bush said Wednesday that whatever response Israel decides to take, his hope is that Prime Minister Sharon keeps a "vision of peace" in mind. Mr. Bush also said Yasser Arafat's order for his forces to rein in Palestinian attacks on Israeli civilians is an "incredibly positive sign." He said he hopes the Palestinian leader's actions match his words. Some information for this report provided by AP and AFP.

World events are historic steps in the purpose and plan of God. The outcome of history is up to man - restricted only by sovereign limits imposed by God. The future events are consequences resulting from mankind exercising the gift of intelligence and free will in response to situations developing from past events. This human response is either synchronized to His Will or in rebellion to His Will. Behavior is either the manifestation of love or it's opposite - hate. As Christians we should be involved through loving (caring attitude and behavior for others) actions empowered by prayer, understanding, and submission to His Will. | |||||||||
