May 2002 Chinese Police Detain Five Asylum-Seekers VOA News 8 May 2002 21:09 UTC Chinese authorities have detained at least five of seven people who tried to seek asylum at two foreign consulates in the northeastern city of Shenyang. Most of the asylum-seekers are believed to be North Koreans. Police say they grabbed three of the apparent asylum seekers at the entrance to the Japanese consulate and the other two were seized inside the compound. Japan is protesting the police action, saying the Chinese did not seek permission before entering. Two others sought refuge at the American consulate in Shenyang, but their status was not immediately clear. China has not commented on the incidents. In March, 25 North Koreans rushed into the Spanish embassy in Beijing and demanded asylum. A day later, they were sent to South Korea via the Philippines. Chinese authorities have intensified security near foreign missions to prevent would-be asylum-seekers from North Korea from applying for passage abroad. Beijing refuses to recognize the refugee status of North Koreans illegally crossing the border. Some information for this report provided by AP and Reuters.

World events are historic steps in the purpose and plan of God. The outcome of history is up to man - restricted only by sovereign limits imposed by God. The future events are consequences resulting from mankind exercising the gift of intelligence and free will in response to situations developing from past events. This human response is either synchronized to His Will or in rebellion to His Will. Behavior is either the manifestation of love or it's opposite - hate. As Christians we should be involved through loving (caring attitude and behavior for others) actions empowered by prayer, understanding, and submission to His Will. | |||
