Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf says Pakistani
forces will hunt down any al-Qaida or Taleban militants who crossed into his
country from Afghanistan.
General Musharraf
says his troops have tried to prevent terrorists from leaving Afghanistan, but
that it was impossible to close the entire border. He says a small number of
militants could have made it into Pakistan.
The Pakistani leader
says any infiltrators will be captured by Pakistani troops with U.S.
communications and electronic tracking assistance. General Musharraf also says
it is "out of the question, not possible at all" that U.S. military forces
control territory in Pakistan. Last month, U.S. special forces troops pursued
al-Qaida and Taleban fighters into Pakistan.
Meanwhile, coalition
forces are continuing their search for Taleban and al-Qaida holdouts in
southern and eastern Afghanistan. A British military spokesman says coalition
troops have so far only encountered friendly villagers in the
operation.
In a separate
operation, several hundred Canadian troops have been deployed in eastern
Afghanistan. U.S. air and Afghan ground forces are assisting the British and
Canadian-led operations.
