Rescue workers
in the northern Nigerian city of Kano are expected to continue to search for
victims Sunday who were killed in a plane crash.
Witnesses say
the plane, believed to be carrying at least 75 people, crashed into a densely
populated neighborhood and burst into flames as it was attempting to take off
Saturday from the Kano airport.
Nigerian
officials say the cause of the crash is not yet known. It is not known if there
were any survivors.
Rescue workers
at the scene say at least 40 people were killed on the ground. Panicked
residents have been scouring the neighborhood near the crash site, looking for
relatives believed to be trapped in the debris of homes.

Nigerian
authorities say the British Aerospace 1-11-500 passenger jet was on a domestic
flight that originated in Lagos with a stop in Jos. The jet was privately owned
by Nigerian EAS Airlines, one of several air carriers serving the country's
domestic routes.
The Dutch-based
Aviation Safety Network says the 1-11-500 aircraft has been involved 28 crashes
since 1963.
