Zimbabwe has been suspended from the Commonwealth for one year because of the violence in that country's recent presidential election. Australian Prime Minister John Howard announced the decision in London after a meeting with the two other members of the Commonwealth's task force on the election, Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo and South African President Thabo Mbeki. International observors say President Robert Mugabe stole the election amid massive fraud and intimidation of the opposition by the president's followers. Chester Crocker, now a professor at Georgetown University, was Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs in the Reagan Administration. He told News Now's Sarah Williams about his reaction to the decision.
