President Bush says he will not blink or
tire in the war against terrorism and is seizing the moment for freedom and the
peace of the world.
Speaking in a
wide-ranging White House news conference Wednesday, Mr. Bush said "all options
are on the table" in the defense of the United States, it friends and its
allies.
The president said
al-Qaida terrorist leader Osama bin Laden is on the run, but the war against
terrorism must continue.
Mr. Bush said he is
committed to cutting the U.S. nuclear arsenal and establishing a new
relationship with Russia. Commenting on the Pentagon review of U.S. nuclear
weapons policy, Mr. Bush said he must be free to choose from many options, and
he said the U.S. nuclear arsenal is strictly for
deterrence.
Turning to Iraq, Mr.
Bush called its leader, Saddam Hussein, a man who has proven he is unafraid to
use weapons of mass destruction.
President Bush also
urged the Palestinians and Israel to implement the Tenet cease-fire
plan.
Mr. Bush
congratulated U.S.-led anti-terrorist forces in Afghanistan, saying they are
performing brilliantly.
And Mr. Bush said the
United States does not recognize the outcome of the election in Zimbabwe won by
President Robert Mugabe, calling it "flawed."
