The sixth month
anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks will be observed in a major
White House ceremony early Monday.
More than 1,000
people, including foreign ambassadors and victims' families, have been invited
to attend. President Bush is expected to talk about what has been accomplished
so far and what is to come in the war on terrorism.
He is also expected
to pay tribute to the victims of the September 11 attack.
Another ceremony will
be held at the Pentagon, where 189 people were killed when an al-Qaida
terrorist flew a hijacked airliner into one side of the U.S. military
headquarters.
A day of observance
in New York will be marked by two moments of silence at the times when each of
the World Trade Center towers was hit by al-Qaida hijacked jetliners, killing
more than 3,000 people.
The day will end with
the ceremonial lighting of the Tribute of Light, 88 high-powered beams that
will point skyward from where the buildings stood.
In London, Vice
President Dick Cheney will join British Prime Minister Tony Blair in
remembering foreign victims of the attacks.
Sunday, U.S. Homeland
Security chief Tom Ridge warned that terrorists are probably still in the
country and said Americans must be wary and alert.
