U.S. officials say DNA samples were taken from al-Qaida and Taliban detainees held at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
Authorities said Sunday the profiles will be kept in a database to help identify and track suspected terrorists.
Last month, U.S. authorities said they were collecting hairs from the detainees to obtain possible DNA samples.
Authorities have said the information may help trace the hairs found in the shoes of Richard Reid, the man accused of trying to blow up a trans-Atlantic flight last December with hidden explosives.
Also Sunday, FBI Director Robert Mueller toured the facilities at Guantanamo Bay.
