Austrian skier Hannes Trinkl has won his first World Cup downhill race of the season, edging out Claude Cretier of France at Kvitfjell, Norway.
Stephan Eberharter of Austria, who has already clinched the downhill season title, finished in sixth Saturday.
Corinne Ray-Bellet of Switzerland was the winner of the women's downhill event at Lenzerheide, Switzerland, finishing ahead of Melanie Suchet of France.
However, Italy's Isolde Kostner wrapped up the season downhill title for the second straight year despite a 10th place finish Saturday when her closest rival, Renate Goetschl of Austria, crashed out of the race.
Nordic Skiing
Reigning World Cup champion Per Elofsson of Sweden has come another step closer to locking up this year's title by winning a men's 15-kilometer freestyle cross-country skiing event in Lahti, Finland.
Elofsson finished the race in 35 minutes, 43.6 seconds, 17.1 seconds ahead of Norway's Thomas Alsgaard. Another Norwegian, Tore Ruud Hofstad, finished third, (36:26.4).
With the win, Elofsson strengthened his lead in the overall World Cup standings with 649 points. Alsgaard is in second place, with 411 points. Andres Aukland of Norway is third overall with 407 points.
In a women's 10-kilometer freestyle event, Kristina Smigun of Estona beat two-time Olympic medallist Stefania Belmondo of Italy by six-10ths of one second, finishing in 26 minutes, 32.3 seconds. Nina Gavriiljuk of Russia finished third.
Katerina Neumannova of the Czech Republic continues to lead the overall standings with 710 points. Bente Skari of Norway is second (619), with Julija Tchepalova of Russia third (597).
Ski Jumping
Finland has defeated Slovenia and Olympic champion Germany to win the team ski jumping event at a World Cup competition at Lahti, Finland.
The Olympic silver medallists in Salt Lake City, the Finnish had a total of 1,022.6 points. Slovenia was second, 48.3 points back with 974.3 points. Germany was third.
The win was small consolation for the Finns, who lost the gold medal to Germany by .1 of one point, February 18, at Park City, Utah.
