U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell has stressed the United States will keep its war on terrorism focused on what he calls "small and manageable" missions.
Mr. Powell was responding to criticism from both inside the United States and outside that the U.S.-led campaign against terrorism is too broad.
Commenting on President Bush's description of North Korea, Iraq and Iran as "an axis of evil", Mr. Powell said that the United States is not ready to declare a war on anyone.
He spoke on the U.S. television station CNN. U.S. troops are currently taking part in the war against terror groups in Afghanistan and the Philippines. Other U.S. troops are expected soon in Georgia, near the border with the separatist Russian region of Chechnya.
