The speaker of the Indian Parliament has died in a helicopter crash.

Indian Television reports say G.M.C. Balayogi, the speaker of the lower house, was killed when a helicopter carrying him and two other people went down in Andhra Pradesh state.

Star television reports the aircraft hit a tree in a fog shortly after takeoff from the town of Bhimavaram.

NDTV says the helicopter developed technical problems after takeoff, but few details of the crash are immediately available.
