Zimbabwe's President Robert Mugabe and his challenger, Morgan Tsvangirai, continue to battle in campaign speeches in Harare, the capital, on the last Sunday before their election showdown.

Mr. Mugabe told an audience in Harare's Mbare township that he wants to see a peaceful election on March 9-10.

Meanwhile, Mr. Tsvangirai promised a crowd of at least 10,000 supporters at Zimbabwe Grounds that he would promote racial and ethnic tolerance.

Mr. Tsvangirai of the opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) is mounting the most serious challenge ever faced by President Mugabe, who has held power for 22 years.

The Zimbabwe election campaign has been marred by intimidation and violence towards MDC. The party says 107 of its members have been killed in political violence over the past two years.
