A United Nations Security Council mission, which recently visited Ethiopia and Eritrea, has urged the two countries to exercise restraint ahead of a ruling on their disputed border.
The U.N. delegation, led by Norwegian Ambassador Ole Peter Kolby, briefed the Security Council about the visit to Ethiopia and Eritrea Thursday in New York.
The delegation called on the two Horn of Africa countries to avoid any action that could have destabilizing effects, including population shifts and movements of troops and militia.
The independent Boundary Commission at the Hague is to release its ruling demarcating the Ethiopian and Eritrean border later in March. The two nations fought a two-year border war that ended in 2000.
The U.N. delegation says both Ethiopian and Eritrean authorities have pledged to abide by the border ruling.
