The top three seeds and an unseeded player have advanced to the semifinals of the women's State Farm Tennis Classic in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Number-one Jennifer Capriati of the United States beat number-six Barbara Schett of Austria in straight sets: 7-5, 6-3.

Second-seed Martina Hingis of Switzerland needed three sets to get by number-eight Daja Bedanova of the Czech Republic 6-4, 0-6, 6-3.

Number-three Serena Williams of the United States had little trouble with unseeded Nicole Pratt of Australia 6-2, 7-5.

Unseeded Nathalie Dechy of France upset number-seven Francesca Schiavone of Italy in straight sets 7-6, 6-4.

Anna Kournikova will have to wait a little longer for her first tennis title. The unseeded Russian was ousted in the semifinals of the Mexican Open, in Acapulco, by unseeded Katarina Srebotnik of Slovenia.

Kournikova won the first set 7-5 before she was crushed 6-3, 6-1.

Top-seed Elena Dementieva of Russia was also sent to the sidelines when she was upset in straight sets by number-seven Paola Suarez of Argentina 7-5, 6-3.
