A fight broke out between Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers and Reggie Miller of the Indiana Pacers at the end of their National Basketball Association contest Friday in Los Angeles.
Miller appeared to be walking toward Bryant when the two began throwing punches. Several other players joined in as Lakers' star Shaquille O'Neal tried to calm the situation. He was involved in a fight in January against Chicago that led to his suspension for several games.
O'Neal had 33 points and 12 rebounds Friday to lead the defending champion Lakers to a 96-84 win over the Pacers.
Philadelphia's Allen Iverson scored 43 points to lead the host 76ers past the Eastern Conference-leading New Jersey Nets, 110-102.
Sacramento's Chris Webber celebrated his 29th birthday by scoring 32 points as the league-leading Kings downed the host Golden State Warriors, 116-108.
In the other NBA games Friday, the Portland Trail Blazers extended their winning streak to eight games with a 91-81 victory over the host Toronto Raptors - losers of 10 straight. The Charlotte Hornets defeated the Celtics, 100-87, in Boston. The New York Knicks snapped a six-game losing streak, edging the visiting Seattle SuperSonics, 89-87.
The Detroit Pistons downed the visiting Orlando Magic, 110-102. The San Antonio Spurs got by the Minnesota Timberwolves, 85-77, in Minneapolis. The Bulls beat the Washington Wizards, 90-81, in Chicago. And the Nuggets beat the Memphis Grizzlies, 96-83, in Denver.
