INTRO: Germany has jumped into the lead in Group-E after picking up three points by crushing Saudi Arabia 8-0 Saturday in Sapporo. V-O-A's Steve Schy is in Japan to cover the World Cup and says Germany took control from the opening kick-off.
TEXT: The score could have been even more lopsided, with Germany missing at least four scoring opportunities before Miroslav Klose (KLO-zeh) gave the Europeans a 1-0 lead with an eight-meter header in the 20th minute. Klose scored again five minutes later, from almost the same spot.
Michael Ballack added a header of his own in the 40th to put Germany up 3-0, and Carsten Jancker (YAHN-ker) tallied in extra time to make it 4-nil at the half. In the second half, the Germans added another goal from Klose and three other players to close out the 8-0 win.
Earlier, Cameroon and Ireland played to a 1-1 draw. Cameroon's German coach Winnie Schaefer says it's too soon to worry about the upcoming match against Germany
