An official in the Siberian regional emergencies ministry says five people died and three others were injured when their car collided with a freight train in the Chita region early Thursday.

The Itar-Tass news agency quotes the ministry as saying the collision occurred after the car's driver crossed the rail track even though signals warning of the approaching train were lit.
