Japanese Share Prices Close Higher VOA News 31 Jan 2002 09:30 UTC 
Japanese share prices closed higher today Thursday, while the U.S. dollar rose against the Japanese yen.
Tokyo's key Nikkei index gained 78 points to finish at 9,998.
In late afternoon Tokyo currency trading, the dollar was selling at 132.94 yen, up .2 of a yen from the same time Wednesday.
In Hong Kong, the price of gold closed at $281.95 an ounce, down 70 cents from Wednesday's close.
