Switzerland's new airline will adopt the brand-name "Swiss," while its legal name will be Swiss Air Lines, the company announced Thursday.

The new name comes after the carrier's predecessor, SwissAir, filed for bankruptcy protection last October. The word "Swiss" will be written in English, as well as in Switzerland's four languages, German, French, Italian and Reto-roman.

The airline will also have a white-cross on a red background as its logo, similar to the one used by SwissAir.

The new company emerged after the Swiss government, together with industry representatives, put together a rescue plan, which involved recapitalising and expanding SwissAir's former regional carrier, CrossAir. "Swiss", which plans to emphasize quality of service rather than low prices, aims to break-even in 2003, after posting a loss in 2002.
