Japanese Share Prices Close Lower

Japanese share prices closed lower Wednesday, while the U.S. dollar fell against the Japanese yen.

Tokyo's key Nikkei index dropped 107 points to finish at 9,919, falling below the 10,000 level for the first time since November.

In late afternoon Tokyo currency trading, the dollar was selling at 132.76 yen, down three tenths of yen from the same time Tuesday.

In Hong Kong, the price of gold closed at $282.65 an ounce, up $4.50 from Tuesday's close.
