European share prices are mixed at midday.
In London, the Financial Times Index is down 20 points at 5,204, while in Paris the CAC 40 is down 9 points at 4,533. The Dax in Frankfurt is 13 points higher at 5,172.
In New York, the S&P futures contract is down a fraction of a point, indicating marginally-lower open for U.S. stocks.
Earlier in Tokyo, the Nikkei Index fell 195 points (nearly 2 percent) to close at 10,026, but in Hong Kong the Hang Seng Index picked up 247 points (more than 2 percent) to end the day at 11,014.
The price of gold in London is $277.80 an ounce, down $1.30.
The dollar is mostly higher against the other major currencies.
