The International Bible Society says America's best-selling translation of the modern Bible is about to get an update, using more modern, gender-neutral wording.

The revision will be called, "Today's New International Version," and is expected to go on sale in April. The original "New International Version," which has sold more than 150 million copies worldwide since 1978, will remain on the market.

Examples of some planned changes in the new edition aimed at Protestants include referring to the Virgin Mary as being "pregnant," rather than "with child." It also will amend "sons of God" to read as "children of God."

Not everyone is happy with the changes, especially evangelicals, who believe the Bible is the word of God and should not be changed.

All or part of the Bible is currently available in some 70 English translations.
