US Stocks Close Mixed

U.S. stocks closed mixed Monday, one day before President Bush delivers his State of the Union address that is expected to cover the health of the economy and the fight against terrorism.
At the closing bell, the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed almost 26 points higher, nearly 0.3 percent, at 9,866. The broad market indicator, the S&P 500, lost 0.2 of a point, .02 percent, to end the day at 1,133. The technology-heavy Nasdaq Composite Index rose 6.25 points, 0.3 percent, to 1,944.
In London, the Financial Times Index ended the day up 31 points, 0.6 percent, at 5,224, while in Paris the CAC 40 Index was up 57 points, 1.3 percent, at 4,541. The Dax Index in Frankfurt rose more than 2 points, nearly 0.1 percent, to 5,159 in late trading.
Gold for current delivery in New York closed at $278.30 cents, down 50 cents from Friday.
The dollar was mixed against the other major currencies.
