Indonesian prosecutors have begun questioning two army officers over the murder of Dutch journalist Sander Thoenes in East Timor in 1999.

Authorities believe that Lieutenant Colonel Pieter Lobo, chief of a military district in Timor, and lieutenant Colonel Wilmar Aritonang, who was in charge of troops on the East-West Timor border have knowledge of events leading up to the murder.

Mr. Thoenes was working for London's Financial Times when he was gunned down at a military roadblock in Dili in September of 1999.
