U.N. Chief Visits Iran for Afghan Talks

U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan has begun a visit to Tehran for talks with Iranian leaders on the rebuilding of Afghanistan.Mr. Annan said on arrival (Friday evening) that Iran is an important country that can play an important role in the reconstruction of its neighbor. He is to meet with Iran's president (Mohammad Khatami) foreign minister (Kamal Kharrazi) and speaker of parliament (Mehdi Karroubi) during his three day stay. (AFP, IRNA, prev)
