The football club Hapoel Tel Aviv is continuing its stunning run through the UEFA Cup tournament. The Israeli team defeated two-time winner Parma, 2-1, on the road in Italy Thursday to reach the quarterfinal round.

The club also ousted star-studded Chelsea in the first round and became the first Israeli club to reach the last eight of a European competition by silencing Parma fans at Ennio Tardini stadium. Next, it meets another Italian power, AC Milan. But AC Milan appeared less than dominant Thursday, needing a penalty shootout victory after tossing away a 1-0 first-leg advantage against Dutch club Roda Kerkrade. Mark Luijpers canceled out that advantage with a 71st minute strike. After extra time, Milan won the penalty shootout, 3-2. Feyenoord of the Netherlands beat Glasgow Rangers, 3-2, to advance past the Scottish team with an aggregate 4-3 score. Feyenoord will next play PSV Eindhoven, after the Dutch club edged Leeds United of England, 1-0, to move ahead by that same aggregate score.

Inter Milan of Italy played a 2-2 tie at AEK Athens of Greece to advance, 5-3. Valencia of Spain got the same result at Swiss club Servette for a 5-2 overall result. Slovan Liberec of the Czech Republic is another surprise quarterfinalist, advancing 5-2, after a 4-1 victory over Lyon of France.

Also moving ahead is Borussia Dortmund of Germany, which played the French team Lille to a scoreless draw. The two teams also tied, 1-1 in France, which means Borussia Dortmund advances on the away goals rule.
