Officials in China's capital, Beijing, have ordered McDonald's restaurants to tear down at least 30 of their golden arches sign posts, as part of a crackdown on outdoor advertising.

The officials say a new law banning free standing advertising is designed to tidy up the city, which they feel has become cluttered by the signs.

Officials acknowledge removing the signs could affect business at the popular fast food restaurants, but they say McDonald's has been cooperating with the new rules.
