Turkish lawmakers have officially condemned a European Parliament resolution calling the killings of Armenians in the final years of the Ottoman Empire a genocide.
In a statement issued by the six parties in the Turkish parliament, lawmakers say the resolution is a "denial of history" and acceptance of "baseless Armenian claims."
Thursday's European Parliament resolution reiterated a 1987 decree that recognized the killing of Armenians as genocide and called on Ankara to do the same.
Armenia accuses Turkey of genocide in the deaths of more than one-million ethnic Armenians under Ottoman rule during World War I. Turkey denies the allegations, calling the deaths a result of war.
