Sports management experts say Canadian figure skating pair Jamie Sale and David Pelletier could make up to $5 million a year from product endorsements and appearances if they decide to turn professional.
Sale and Pelletier came to prominence at the Winter Olympics when they were awarded the silver medal in the pairs figure skating event, even though many experts believed the had performed better than the gold medal duo from Russia.
Amid allegations of vote rigging by a French judge, Sale and Pelletier ended up being awarded a belated Olympic gold medal. The extra attention drawn to the telegenic couple made them household names.
Sale and Pelletier have since made a series of high profile television appearances and have signed a contract to endorse a tooth-whitening product for the Procter and Gamble Company. The deal could also include a 45-city skating tour across the United States and Canada.
