Hong Kong's chief executive Tung Chee-hwa has secured a second five-year term in office after nominations for the post closed with him as the only candidate.
His victory was confirmed by election officials Thursday.
Mr. Tung had been assured re-election since last week, when he was nominated by more than 700 members of an 800-person election committee. That level of support meant no challenger could get placed on the ballot.
The committee that elects Hong Kong's top leader is heavily influenced by Beijing, which has expressed strong support for Mr. Tung.
The Chinese government hand picked Mr. Tung to run the former British colony after it reverted to Chinese rule in 1997.
