European Share Prices Lower at Midday VOA News 28 Feb 2002 12:50 UTC 
In London, the Financial Times Index is down 72 points (1.4 percent) at 5,107, while in Paris the CAC 40 Index is down 25 points at 4,400. The DAX Index in Frankfurt is 15 points lower at 4,945.
Earlier in Tokyo, the Nikkei Index rose 15 points to close at 10,588, but in Hong Kong the Hang Seng Index lost 166 points (1.6 percent) to end the day at 10,483.
The price of gold in London is $296.55 an ounce - down 85 cents.
The dollar is mostly higher against the other major currencies.
