European share prices are higher in midday trading.
In London, the Financial Times Index is up 19 points at 5,158, while in Paris the CAC 40 is up 48 points (more than 1 percent) at 4,389. The DAX in Frankfurt is 55 points (more than 1 percent) higher at 4,953.
In New York, the S&P futures contract is up more than 4 points, indicating a higher open for U.S. stocks, which fell slightly on Tuesday.
Earlier in Tokyo, the Nikkei Index rose 370 points (nearly 4 percent) to close at 10,573, while in Hong Kong the Hang Seng Index picked up 102 points (nearly 1 percent) to end the day at 10,649.
The price of gold in London is $299.30 an ounce, up $5.10.
The dollar is posting mixed results against the other major currencies.
