A Russian soldier armed with a rifle and cartridges who left his post guarding an ammunition depot in Siberia has been captured.

Russian Defense Ministry officials say Private Ivan Sapsayev was found in the Chita region of Siberia, about 4,700 kilometers east of Moscow.

Officials say he left his post late Monday and was captured by the other soldiers in his unit, who had only just started a search for him. He offered no resistance.

Earlier this month, two deserters in central Russia killed nine people before they were gunned down by security forces.
