Spanish skier Johann Muehlegg has failed a second drug test and faces a possible two-year suspension from the sport.

Muehlegg learned Tuesday that a sample of his urine test proved positive after the International Olympic Committee's medical commission sent the result to Spain's state secretary for sport.

On Sunday, the German-born skier was stripped of his 50 kilometer gold medal - his third gold of the Salt Lake games - after testing positive for darbepoetin, which boosts production of oxygen-carrying red blood cells.

The skier had been scheduled to meet Spain's King Juan Carlos on Wednesday, but the royal palace has called off the reception.

Muehlegg will keep gold medals for the 10 and 30 kilometer freestyle events, Spain's first cross-country skiing gold medals since 1972.
