Field Hockey World Cup Continues in Kuala Lumpur

Malaysia and South Korea have earned wins in group play Tuesday at the World Cup field hockey tournament in Kuala Lumpur.

In Group B play, Malaysia beat Japan 1-0 and South Korea beat India 2-1. The two winners face each other on Wednesday.

Chairal Anwar Abd Aziz scored the winning goal for Malaysia at 27 minutes. Malaysia could not convert on a penalty corner early in the second half and held off a late surge by Japan for the win. On Sunday Malaysia lost their opening match 3-0 against Australia.

Yeo Woon-Koon's penalty corner conversion gave South Korea the lead after 21 minutes. Song Seung-Tae scored late to give the Olympic silver medallists a 2-0 lead. Jugraj Singh scored for India.

In other group B matches, Australia defeated England 1-0, and Poland defeated Cuba, 4-1.

A record 16 nations are competing in two groups of eight in the tenth field hockey World Cup finals. The tournament semifinals are scheduled for March 7, two days ahead of the final match.
