Heavy fighting between rival factions continued Tuesday in Somalia's capital, Mogadishu.

Medical sources report more than 15 people were killed and more than 30 were wounded Tuesday.

The clashes erupted Monday between militiamen loyal to faction leader Musa Sudi Yalahow and rival leader Omar Mohamed Mahmud, known as "Finish." At least eight people were killed in Monday's fighting.

Mr. Omar Mohamed signed a peace agreement in Kenya with Somalia's transitional national government in December, but Mr. Musa Sudi fiercely opposes the deal.

The transitional government was set up in 2000, but has so far failed to exert its authority beyond certain areas of the capital. Somalia has been without an effective central government since the overthrow of President Mohamed Siad Barre in 1991.
