The International Swimming Federation has announced Tuesday it would carry out testing for the banned endurance drug EPO, at the world short course championships in Moscow in April. It will be the first time the combined test has been used in a world championship.

Blood samples from swimmers would be screened on site and urine samples would be sent to a laboratory accredited by the International OIympic Committee.

The swimming federation said testing for EPO and related substances will become part of its year-round detection program.
