A Colombian presidential candidate and four people traveling with her are missing in a formerly rebel-controlled area, now occupied by government troops.
A spokeswoman for Ingrid Betancourt said she disappeared on a road leading to the region's main town, San Vicente del Caguan Saturday afternoon. The spokeswoman said Ms. Betancourt had been traveling with a French photographer, a cameraman and two aides.
(The leftist Revolutionary Armes Forces of Colombia, or) FARC had used San Vincente as a base of operations until several days ago, when government troops re-captured the area.
The 40 year-old Ms. Betancourt, a former Colombian Senator, is running for president in the May 26 elections. She has been an outspoken critic of both the rebels and the Colombian government.
