OPEC: Oil Could Rise to $20 a Barrel

OPEC Secretary-General Ali Rodriguez says if cooperation between OPEC members and non-OPEC producers in cutting oil production continues, oil prices will be about $20 a barrel in the months ahead. Mr. Rodriguez, speaking at a petroleum conference in New Zealand, said he is confident that Russia, the biggest non-OPEC producer, will continue to keep production cuts in place.
Analysts say rising exports from Russia could trigger a price war between OPEC and non-OPEC producers. Oil prices have fallen sharply over the past year amid falling demand in slowing economies, especially after the September 11 terrorist attacks in the United States. Prices have risen in recent weeks, after OPEC and non OPEC producers announced production cutbacks.
