Organizers of an indoor athletics meet in Northern France, Lievin, have refused to invite women's world 5,000 meter champion Olga Yegorova, of Russia, to compete because of her doping controversy last year.
Yegorova tested positive for the banned performance-enhancer EPO at a Golden League event, in Paris, last July. The resulting international ban was lifted because of procedural flaws in the testing. Yegorova went on to win the 5,000d meter event at the World Championships in Edmonton, Canada.
One of the organizers of Sunday's Energizer EuroSeries meet explained that he did not want athletes "who have had problems with doping."
Gerard Fremaux said Thursday that although Yegorova's ban was lifted, "her image is not good." Although Yegorova's name was submitted by her manager for the mile event, Fremaux chose not to select her, saying he was under no obligation to do so.
