Stephan Eberharter of Austria has finally captured his first gold medal of the Salt Lake City Olympics, as he skied to victory in the men's giant slalom in Park City.
Eberharter was favored to win gold in three events coming into the Winter Games, but had to settle for silver in the Super-G and bronze in the downhill last week.
However on Thursday, Eberharter covered the tough, steep course in a combined time of two minutes and 23.28 seconds. American Bode Miller of the United States had the fastest second run to clinch his second silver medal of the Games, .88 seconds back. Miller also won silver in the combined event.
Lasse Kjus of Norway also picked up his second medal of the Games, capturing the bronze (2:24.32), after winning the downhill silver last week. Kjus won a silver in the downhill last week and now has five Olympic medals overall.
