Britain's Queen Elizabeth has arrived in New Zealand for a week-long visit as part of a worldwide jubilee tour that has already taken her to Jamaica.

The British queen was greeted Friday in Wellington, New Zealand's capital, by a group of officials that included the country's first transsexual lawmaker, former male prostitute Georgina Beyer.

A recent poll shows nearly 60 percent of New Zealand's population considers the British royalty irrelevant. However, just one-third are in favor of getting rid of the queen as New Zealand's nominal head of state.

The queen, who is being accompanied by her husband, Prince Philip, will go next to Australia.
