The Russian space agency says Lance Bass of the popular boys band, 'N Sync, will not become the first rock singer to go into space, at least, not aboard a Russia spacecraft.

Media reports earlier this week said the teen idol might follow U.S. millionaire Dennis Tito to become the second private citizen to pay for a trip into space aboard the Soyuz space taxi.

But Thursday, Russian space agency spokesman Sergei Gorbunov told Reuters news agency there has been no discussion on the matter with Bass.

Reuters said Bass had discussed the matter with the Dutch-based commercial space exploration company Mircorp. It was involved in initial preparations to send Dennis Tito into space.

But the Russian space agency says Mircorp talks with Bass were just an advertising stunt. The agency spokesman says the next tourist in space may be Leszek Czarnecki, a Polish businessman.
