A delegation from the U.N. Security Council has arrived in Addis Ababa to review the peace process between Ethiopia and Eritrea.

Upon arrival Thursday night, Norwegian U.N. Ambassador and delegation leader Ole Peter Kolby said the group comes as friends trying to help. The group is made up of 15 diplomats representing the member nations of the Security Council.

Ethiopia and Eritrea signed a peace agreement in Algiers in December 2000, ending the conflict that claimed tens of thousands of lives from both sides.

While in Ethiopia, the delegation will hold talks with senior officials including Prime Minister Meles Zenawi. They are scheduled to travel to Eritrea on Saturday for a similar visit.

Ambassador Kolby has said the Security Council is committed to helping Ethiopia and Eritrea build a lasting peace.

An independent Boundary Commission, based in the Hague, will release its findings on delineating the border between the two countries at the end of March. The Boundary Commission last week delayed its decision by one month.

Ethiopia and Eritrea have agreed to abide by the Commission's findings.

Since the peace agreement, the United Nations has deployed nearly 4,000 peacekeeping troops and civilians to monitor the cease-fire.
