China has announced that President Jiang Zemin will visit Vietnam beginning February 27.

The official Xinhua news agency says Mr. Jiang will travel to Hanoi at the invitation of Vietnamese Communist Party chief Nong Duc Manh, who visited Beijing in December.

Talks between the two leaders next week are expected to touch on China's recent entry into the World Trade Organization, which Vietnam also hopes to join.

Relations between the two nations have steadily improved since the former rivals normalized diplomatic ties in 1991. They fought a bloody war in 1979 after Vietnam invaded Cambodia to oust the Beijing-backed Khmer Rouge.
