US Stocks Mixed in Afernoon Trading

U.S. stocks remain mixed in afternoon trading.

The Dow Jones Industrial average is up 49 points at 9,990, and the broad market indicator, the S&P 500, is up a fraction of a point at 1,098. But the technology-heavy Nasdaq Composite Index is 14 points lower at 1,762, amid concern a profit rebound for tech companies may take longer than expected.

In London, the Financial Times Index ended the day up 49 points (one percent) at 5,073, while in Paris, the CAC 40 Index was up 48 points (more than one percent) at 4,287. The DAX Index in Frankfurt is 56 points (more than one percent) higher at 4,836, in late trading.

Earlier in Tokyo, the Nikkei Index rose 461 points (nearly five percent) to close at 10,295, while in Hong Kong the Hang Seng Index picked up 40 points to end the day at 10,789.

The price of gold closed in London at $292.60 an ounce - up $1.60.

The dollar remains mixed against the other major currencies.
