A suspected car bomb blast has rocked a Macau neighborhood, injuring at least one person and damaging nearby buildings.

Officials say the motive of the explosion, near Macau's border with China, is still unclear.

It is reported to be the worst blast to hit Macau since the former Portuguese colony reverted to Chinese rule in December, 1999.

Prior to the handover, Macau was engulfed by a wave of gang violence over control of lucrative gambling and prostitution rackets.
