Ales Valents of the Czech Republic has taken the gold medal in Tuesday Men's Freestyle Skiing Aerials at the Salt Lake City winter games.

Valents was tied for fifth place after the first jump, recovering enough to vault all the way to the gold after the second and final jump. Joe Pack of the United States finished second to take the silver, while Alexi Grichin of Belarus will take home the bronze medal.

Meanwhile, Lithuania Tuesday launched a protest against the judging in Monday's ice dancing competition after finishing without a medal in fifth place.

Skaters Margarita Drobiazko and Povilas Vanagas complained that they skated a flawless routine after the Canadian and Italian teams both fell during their presentations.

The Canadians finished fourth and the Italians wound up in third place with a bronze medal, despite their mistakes on the ice. France won the gold and Russia took the silver.

Tuesday's highlights also include the debut of women's bobsled, women's ice hockey playoffs, and the women's short figure skating program.
